Bangalore 4/14/2006 12:43:05 PM BSNL UNIONS PROTEST DEMONSTRATIONS UNITED FORUM OF BSNL UNIONS HOLD PROTEST DEMONSTRATIONS ON 19.04.2006 The United Forum of BSNL Unions has decided to hold protest demonstrations throughout the country on 19.04.06 and also to send Telegrams to Finance Minister. The focus of the agitation is on two issues. One is the abnormal delay in the refund of Central Government Employees Group Insurance Scheme (CGEGIS) amount to BSNL employees. The second one is the denial of Compassionate Ground Appointments in BSNL. Refund of CGEGIS amount:- The CGEGIS which was in vogue for the BSNL employees was withdrawn in March 2004. Government of India unilaterally withdrew the scheme, despite the employees and BSNL Management wanted it to continue. A new LIC (Life Insurance Corporation) based Group Insurance Scheme is also already implemented for BSNL employees. However, the amount due to the employees from the CGEGIS is not yet refunded. See Detail » COLOMBO 11/17/2005 12:57:21 PM JPU Scholarship Award Ceremony JPU Delegation visits Sri Lanka to award Scholarships & Inaugurates IT Center for Tsunami victims in Galle Twenty-two Japanese Postal Union members from the Chiba branch visited Sri Lanka for the annual scholarship award ceremony held on the 30th October 2005 in Colombo. Mr. Yoshio Ikeda President of the Chiba branch of the JPU led the delegation. UNI APRO has been coordinating this scholarship scheme since 2000 between the JPU and UPTO in Sri Lanka. Under the scholarship scheme ten children of postal employees in Sri Lanka will receive a monthly payment from JPU for a period of two years to pursue their higher education. This year a special scholarship was awarded to a girl who lost both her legs and an arm due to a fatal train accident, and yet she gain admission to a University in Sri Lanka. Mr. Dinesh Gunawardena.
